A confident start does not require perfect preparation. Familiar routines and calm encouragement can make the transition easier.
Practice the morning rhythm
In the weeks before school, gradually move bedtime and wake-up time closer to the school-day schedule. Let your child practice dressing, eating breakfast, and preparing belongings with age-appropriate independence.
Talk about school in concrete terms
Explain who will bring and collect your child, what a classroom is like, and what may happen during the day. Avoid promising that nothing will feel difficult. Reassure your child that trusted adults will help.
Build small responsibilities
Simple tasks—putting away materials, opening a lunch container, following two-step directions—help children participate more confidently. Praise effort and improvement rather than speed.
Share useful information with the school
Tell the school about important routines, medical needs, allergies, learning concerns, or situations that may affect your child. Good communication helps adults respond thoughtfully from the beginning.
